The NHMRC National Institute for Dementia Research (NNIDR) is developing a Roadmap to specifically address the challenge of dementia within Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Dementia is experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians at a much higher rate than in the non-Indigenous population. Research indicates this difference may be accounted for by higher rates of cardiovascular disease, stroke, adverse early life events and head injury within these communities.

The Roadmap will provide a five-year framework for policy, strategy and funding to address the challenge of dementia within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities - for people currently living with dementia, their families and carers.
